So, wow, what a week it’s been already. But it’s not over.
Keep in mind that tomorrow is Friday the 13th.
Oh, and Sunday? Yeah, beware the Ides of March....
I’m hoping we get everything under control by Le Mans.

I just realized I’ve lost more money in the past week than I made in my entire first year of salaried work in 2003.
Not a humblebrag. They paid me peanuts at the old ad agency.
And I’m only down 10%-12% year to date. The major indices are down 22% -25%. In terms of speed and severity, this puts 2008 to shame.

And all it took was 38 people dying out of 331 million, really shows you how fragile everything truly is.

To be honest, this market was just looking for a trigger. And it found one.
(I’m down so little, relatively, because I started getting defensive 2-3 years ago. You miss some gains, but hopefully you miss even more losses when that shoe drops).
Today’s drop is so steep, I’m tempted to jump in for a short bounce tomorrow.

The loses are only realized if you sell. That’s why I’m not.
If you depend on your investments for short term income though, you’re screwed.

I think Italy was the real catalyst for people to say “whoa....that could happen here?” instead of thinking “eh....it’s in China.....”
Two weeks ago , there were zero deaths in Italy and less than 500 cases reported. Now the whole country is shut down, there are over 800 dead and 12,000+ infected. That progression over the last 10 days showed how quickly it can kill an economy.

Why? In another month, most of us will be dead and civilization will have fallen.

Yeah but I’m getting a refund and I want my money before the dollar devalues like a new AMG SL63.

And the US is withdrawing from Afghanistan, what’s next; cats and dogs living together in peace?

Theory: COVID-19 was created by millennials so it would kill off their parents and grand parents. And then they’d be left with their inheritance before the elders got to spend it all.

Eh, things were rocky from 2/21 through the 26th or so, but had more or less leveled out; it was only after the Saudi’s started dicking over the oil market last Monday that things really cratered.

Nope, I’m “ cash poor and re ti rement rich” if that can be the expression. Mostly thanks to years of 401k matches at work. It’s all for kids’ college and retirement.
My investment status can be assessed based on what colleges I’m telling the kids are good on any given day.

Right there with ya. There is very little of my wealth (if we can call it that) that can be accessed without considerable effort or penalty.
